Staying hydrated is important to our health.
What exactly does “hydrated” mean? Well, this Mayo Clinic article suggests that men drink 3 liters (13 cups) of water per day and that women drink 2 liters (9 cups) of water per day.
So, why should we make sure our water intake is sufficient? According to another Mayo Clinic article, our bodies depend on water to:
- Regulate body temperature
- Moisten tissues such as those in the mouth, nose, and eyes
- Lubricate joints
- Help prevent constipation
- Flush out waste products from the kidneys and liver
- Carry nutrients and oxygen to the cells
- Help dissolve minerals and nutrients to make them more accessible to the body
Now, let’s be honest here. Many of us aren’t drinking the amount of water we should for lots of reasons.
Sometimes you just forget to drink water. Or maybe you’re at work or school, and don’t have access to water. Maybe you’re not close to a restroom and can’t take a tinkle break. Or maybe you’re just too busy.

4 Easy Ways to Drink More Water Every Day
1. Drink your frog first thing in the morning
No, I don’t mean to literally drink a frog. Really, how would one even do that? ;)
I was just playing on Brian Tracy’s book, Eat That Frog, in which he talks about getting your biggest, most important task done first thing instead of procrastinating all day.
So, in this case…drink your frog, er…your water first thing in the morning. When you wake up, fill a large glass with water and drink it while you get ready. I fill up a 24 ounce mason jar with ice water and drink it while I put my makeup on, do my hair, etc. Before I leave the house to take the kids to school, I’ve consumed 3 cups of water!
2. Some like it hot
When it’s winter, I still drink water but sans ice. I heat up a 16 ounce mug of water in the microwave (you could do it in the kettle if you want) for a couple minutes so it’s warm and drink it in the morning while I sit with my dog + say my prayers. (If I’m really cold, I drink one in the afternoon too.) That adds 2 cups of water to my daily total.
3. Make it taste better
There are lots of recipes for fruit, veggie, and herb infused water out there, but it can be an expensive and wasteful way to flavor your water. I have a better, cheaper way that also adds health benefits to your hydration habit.

4. Take it with you
As I mentioned above, I use large mason jars at home. When my family and I are on the go or traveling, we love the water bottles from S’well.
